Lessons concentrate on the teaching of writing with a sharp focus on the craft and
construction of sentences. Each Sentence Stacking lesson is organised into three learning
chunks. Sentences created by pupils should be celebrated and examples used to form a large
class Sentence Stack. This Sentence Stack should build over the duration of the unit to display
the whole piece of text. See appendix for example of complete teacher model for this unit.

Buttercup Class Autumn 1:

A Fantastic Half Term Journey!

What an incredible half term it has been for Buttercup Class! We are thrilled to share what our enthusiastic learners have been up to as we transitioned from Reception into Year 1. The children have settled in splendidly and embraced their new challenges with utmost excitement and determination.

Right from the start, we dove headfirst into our Geography topic, focusing on the fascinating exploration of our local area. The children were eager to investigate Skelmanthorpe, using interactive resources to enhance their learning experience. We spent some time familiarising ourselves with Google Maps, which proved to be an engaging way for the children to find their bearings. This newfound knowledge culminated in a delightful local walk to visit our village's very own Weavers Cottage, where we immersed ourselves in the rich heritage of our community. Observing the historical significance of the cottage truly sparked the children's curiosity and a sense of pride in their local culture.

In an exciting twist, we transformed our home corner into our very own Volare Restaurant! The kids had an absolute blast role-playing as chefs and diners while honing their social skills and creativity. To conclude our unit on local heritage, the children composed letters to our local councillor, proudly offering suggestions to improve our lovely village. Their enthusiasm for civic engagement was palpable, and it was inspiring to see them take such initiative.

Art lessons have also been a highlight of our half term, as we delved into self-portraits. The children explored a diverse range of media, allowing them to express their creativity in multiple forms. Witnessing their artistic transformations has been truly remarkable, and their newfound skills are sure to flourish as we continue our journey.

In Science, we turned our attention to the fascinating world of the human body, focussing on our senses. The hands-on activities we conducted really brought our learning to life! From engaging experiments to fun and interactive lessons, the children have developed a genuine interest in how the human body works.

Physical Education has seen us explore gymnastics, drawing inspiration from the animal kingdom! The children loved incorporating animal movements into their routines, enhancing their coordination and agility.

As we reflect on this half term, it is with great joy that we note the immense growth and development of each member of Buttercup Class. We look forward to continuing this exciting journey together as we venture into the next half term!
