Bluebell class
In a world full of Daffodils they were a Bluebell - Wild - Fearless and rare.
Welcome to Bluebell Class, home of Year 2. This year, our class teacher is Miss Bailey and working with her is Mrs Rathmell. Here you'll find all the information you need to help your child progress, supporting the learning that goes on in class and also giving you a window into what they are doing through the year.
Homework
Reading
Children will bring home a minimum of two reading books. One will be matched to their current reading stage and will enhance their reading skills and abilities. The second will be a book of their choice, chosen to encourage their love of reading by sharing it with the adults at home.
Children are asked to read their book that is matched to their reading stage out loud a minimum of three times per week. This can be recorded in their reading diary. Children are rewarded with a dojo for each day that they read at home.
Spelling
A list of spellings is set once a week on EdShed which children are asked to access throughout the week. There are also a variety of games available on the EdShed app which are designed to enhance children’s spelling skills. This will be of great help to them in their writing and reading comprehension.
Times Tables
In year 2, we focus on our 2, 5 and 10 times tables. These are set on the children’s TTRockstars accounts and can be accessed throughout the week. Children are asked to access and practice their times tables a minimum of twice per week. Regular practice of times tables in this format will help to prepare the children for the Multiplication Check when they reach Year 4.
Meet the Teacher.
English We are often asked if there any books that we can recommend for children. The website www.schoolreadinglist.co.uk shows lots of good choices for individuals and year groups. Each half term we teach English through a text lead approach, using a quality text to spark imagination. We follow ‘The Write Stuff’ by Jane Considine and build up our knowledge throughout the half term before applying the skills we have learned in a piece of independent writing. The texts we have been working with during the Autumn term are The Building Boy by Ross Montgomery and The Friendship Bench by Wendy Meddour. We have also explored the genre of poetry with The Desk Diddler and created our own postcard based on the story Meerkat Christmas by Emily Garvett. |
